Kenwood Earpiece | Earpiece For Kenwood
Kenwood as a company were established in Japan in 1946, not originally called kenwood, but Katsura radio co., ltd and the original business was a radio communications that produced high performance 2-way radio parts, these days we know kenwood for car radio systems, blenders and other electronic equipment.
It wasn't until 1978 that kenwood produced its first commercial radio, they went on to produce FM radios, public safety sector (land mobile radio) and developed a F1 Comms system for the McLain team in 1991. They have always been near the front runners of all radio communications and followed motorola in releasing a digital range of radios called nexedge. Nexedge was developed jointly by icom and kenwood and uses the multi pin connection for the icom radios and the kenwood multi pin for the kenwood radios.
The kenwood radio along with the Icom are arguably the second most popular radio brands, the kenwood is very much like the Motorola it has 2 types of connectors, the 2-pin and the multi pin. The 2 pin connector has a 2.5mm plug and a 3.5mm plug with a larger distance in between the pins than thatof the motorola of 12mm, this makes it the largest of the 3 main connectors and it won't work with the Motorola which is 8mm apart or e Icom that is 10mm apart.
The range that kenwood Earpiece 2-pin connectors work on is large and spans many generations of kenwood radios, here is a compiled list of most of the radios that have a 2-pin connector - TK-208, TK-220, TK-240, TK-240D, TK-248, TK-250, TK-260, TK-260G, TK-270, TK-270G, TK-308, TK-340, TK-340D, TK-348, TK-350, TK-353, TK-360, TK-360G, TK-370, TK-370G, TK-372G, TK-430, TK-431 TK-2100(Pro Talk),2102(Pro Power),2130(Pro Talk K1 XLS),2160 TK-3100(Pro Talk),TK-3101(Free Talk XL),TK-3102(Pro Power) TK-3130(Pro Talk XLS),3131(Free Talk XLS),3160. As you can see it is a large list, but most of these are second and third generation radios, the most popular of these radios are the pro-talk radios, so if you have a pro talk radio you can be confident that a kenwood 2pin will fit your radio.
The kenwood Earpiece multi pin is very much like Motorola multi pin connector, but we can't stress this enough, it will only work on kenwood multi pin radios. We have compiled a majority of the radios that have the kenwood multi pin connector - TK-2140, TK-3140, TK-3180, TK-280, TK-380, TK-480, TK-481, TK-190, TK- K2 290, TK-390, TK-2180, TK-3180, TK-3212, TK-2212, TK-5210, TK-190 and TK-5400. The multi pin connector screws into the radio making it fast and secure. Along with the above radios the new range of Nexedge NX200 and NX300 radios take the kenwood multi in connector.
The kenwood TK range is a popular radio these, and range from the TK-208 to the TK-431 and include the pro-talk radios, all of these have kenwood generic 2-pin connector. For more information see our kenwood connector chart.
